"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
Hardcover, 368 pages
Expected publication: June 5th 2012 by Henry Holt and Co. (BYR)
Goodreads Summary
Surrounded by enemies, the once-great nation of Ravka has been torn in two by the Shadow Fold, a swath of near impenetrable darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh. Now its fate may rest on the shoulders of one lonely refugee.
Alina Starkov has never been good at anything. But when her regiment is attacked on the Fold and her best friend is brutally injured, Alina reveals a dormant power that saves his life—a power that could be the key to setting her war-ravaged country free. Wrenched from everything she knows, Alina is whisked away to the royal court to be trained as a member of the Grisha, the magical elite led by the mysterious Darkling.
Yet nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. With darkness looming and an entire kingdom depending on her untamed power, Alina will have to confront the secrets of the Grisha…and the secrets of her heart.

It's kind of magical and in times of chaos came someone with powers--a power which she was unaware of. I can't wait to see how the story turns out! I'm pretty surprised that they used another name for the UK version, with a different cover as shown below.

Which cover do you prefer? I think I like the UK one better. It does have a magical feel around it.
So, what's your WoW?

I'm going to be reading this one soon thanks to having an eARC from NetGalley and considering the awesome things I've heard about it, I can't wait to start it. I actually prefer the US cover though, because the UK cover is somewhat "usual". Awesome pick!

Looking forward to your thoughts on this book. :) I do agree the UK cover is pretty usual but it is pretty pretty. The US cover is pretty unique. Am I confusing anyone? :D
DeleteHmmmm, I like both of them. I like the building and the colours on the first one and the mysteriousness of the UK cover :)
ReplyDeleteBoth has its unique points. :) But putting the cover aside, it's the content that is what makes a good book.

DeleteTHIS BOOK IS SO AMAZING. I didn't plan on reading it so early before the release date, but it practically jumped into my hands last month and I couldn't shake it off until I was finished -- it's undoubtedly one of the BEST books of the entire year! I like the US cover a little bit more, but only because it reminds me of the circus and I'm a total circus girl :')
ReplyDeleteAmazing pick for your WOW this week, Michelle! I hope you love this one as much as I did! :) <3

Monaliz @ Mind Reading?
It happens to me too so don't worry about it. After all, the cover does make the first impression on us. :D
DeleteI think I like the UK cover better too..it is so gorgeous!! I can't wait to read this book..it sounds amazing :)
ReplyDeleteHappy reading and thanks for stopping by!!
Hope you'll get to read it soon! :)
DeleteI think because I saw the US one first I like it better just because it is so different. It's the font that draws me and the simpleness of the design. The UK cover is beautiful though. The book sounds great and is definitely going on my wish list.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog!
Hope you'll get to read the book soon! :) Thanks for visiting!
