Goodreads Summary:
Peter Warlock is a magician with a dark secret. Every night, he amazes audiences at his private theater in New York, where he performs feats that boggle the imagination. But his day job is just a cover for his otherworldly pursuits: Peter is a member of an underground group of psychics who gaze into the future to help prevent crimes. No one, not even his live-in girlfriend, knows the truth about Peter—until the séance when he foresees an unspeakable act of violence that will devastate the city. As Peter and his friends rush to prevent tragedy, Peter discovers that a shadowy cult of evil psychics, the Order of Astrum, know all about his abilities. They are hunting him and his fellow psychics down, one by one, determined to silence them forever.
Dark Magic is a genre-bending supernatural thriller from national bestselling novelist and real-life magician James Swain.
My Opinion:
The story started out with a vision that something bad was about to happen and had the group scrambling to try to stop it. That's an interesting start in my opinion. The story progresses slowly after that and centers around Peter, a magician and a member of the underground psychic group. Nobody knew about this group of psychic, not even his girlfriend. There was an attempted attack at his own performance that had the police coming and there were some questionings. Then, several members of his psychic group was attacked and Peter must rush to catch the culprit before even more ends up dead.
The story picks up somewhere in the 3rd quarter of the book and I really couldn't put the book down. It is also interesting to read Peter's psychic abilities and how he was able to use it. This is an enjoyable book and it would be really great if the pacing of the story was consistent.
This book is recommended to those who loves magic with some dose of suspense in it.

(Review) Wicked Weekend (Pleasure Code #1) by Gillian Archer
Genre: Erotic Romance (Adult - Above 18 please)

Publisher: Carina Press
Format: ebook

Rating: 3/5

Goodreads Summary:
Why did Lauren Vaughn introduce her sister to the man she herself was crazy about? Now Lauren is watching the happy couple at their combined bachelor/bachelorette party—while Lauren sits all alone at the bar. Until she spots a hot stranger with the telltale black handkerchief in his pocket: the signal for "seeks no-strings affair with sexy submissive." Lauren can't take her eyes off him. So when he comes over, she kicks her inner good girl to the curb and follows Jamie Forman to his room, where he makes her scream with pleasure all night long.
But Jamie is a complicated man. He can't handle how desperately he wants her in his bed—and his life. It's up to Lauren to teach him how to make all night last forever.
My Opinion
The plot shows great promises. Lauren was alone at her sister Crystal's bachelorette party. It was a mistake to introduce Pierce, the co-worker she had a crush on, to Crystal. Lauren broke away from the little party and sat alone at the bar while her eye caught Jamie and he approached her...
For me, this is some sort of educational read as I was not introduced to the theme before. Nevertheless, Wicked Weekend is a fast read of about 70 pages. It would be great if the story is a little longer and show us even more about the two main characters.
This book is for those who loves reading erotic romance and is looking for a steamy read.

More about the author:
Multi-published author, Gillian Archer has always loved books. And has had a serious soft spot for romances ever since the tender age of twelve when she would steal her mother's Harlequin books and read them under the covers with a flashlight. But the writing bug didn't hit until over ten years later after a dare from the husband. (It might have also involved a wall-bangingly bad book.) Now she can't imagine doing anything else.
Outside of writing, Gillian loves to spend time snuggling with her husband, playing with their dogs, and travelling to exotic places. After living abroad for four years, she is very happy to be back in the US with the wonders of Walmart.

Goodreads Summary:
Rebecca’s life sucked before she became an angel. Crappy apartment, awful jobs, abusive boyfriends–it was no wonder she jumped at the chance to escape it all and become a real live angel. The problem is Rebecca’s not very angelic, and she’ll have to do more to earn her wings than end her love affair with the word f–er, frick.
Especially when she’s assigned to save single father Tony Weis, whose less-than-pure thoughts wreak hell on a telepathic angel’s nerves. It’s all Rebecca can do to keep her hands off him…but when she loses her memory injuring herself to save Tony’s daughter, now it’s Tony’s turn to be her angel and care for her. But will Tony’s devotion tempt her from her angelic path, even if it means being human again?
Read excerpt here.
My Opinion:
If you think that this is just another angel story, you are so wrong! Rebecca was not the sort of angels that we would normally think of. She was not very good at being angelic--she's head strong, has a temper and cursed. She was on a mission to save a man's soul and she needed to ace it to gain her angel wings. Imagine the shock that Tony has when a beautiful woman stalked him outside his own house, thinking she was a lunatic and was even more surprised when he found that she could read her mind... Then, in a twist of fate, Rebecca saved Tony's daughter, Miranda, and lost her memories as a result of it. Will she be able to recall everything before she endanger her angel mission any further?
What I love about Divinely Ruined was that little darling called Miranda in the story. She's CUTE!!! *squeals* Ahem! As I was saying, this is not your usual dose of angel story. I'm sure angels don't go around saying "Hey I'm an angel here to save your soul." I mean, that would totally freak you out, just like Tony did. I do understand his apprehension for this crazed lady appearing out of nowhere and then staring at him like nobody's business. He was also very protective of Miranda and I could feel the bond between father and daughter. (Oh my gosh, she's so cute!!) It's kind of interesting to read the telepathic ability that Rebecca has and I was giggling at some of the scenes about it. Then comes the memory loss and there's a different Rebecca for us. First of all, her confusion shows. Then there's Tony's struggles... (If I go on any further, I'll probably spoil it all for you...)
Divinely Ruined is a book that you'll not be able to put it down once you start. I'll definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a romantic read about Angels (and cute kid). I love it!
Quotes:
- "You have to pay the Daddy tax, first." He pointed to his cheek and waited. She laughed and planted a big, wet---very wet--kiss on his jaw. Tony smiled and took her hand. "Paid in full. Okay, let's go."
- "Get this through your head, Tony Weis. I'm not going anywhere. Not until I know your soul from the inside out, and know you've truly been saved.'
"That could take a long time, Rebecca."
- "Daddy, I found a woman in your bed! But she's not a fairy." Miranda sighed. "She looks like she should be a fairy."
"Or an angel," Tony said, his voice odd. He smiled at Miranda. "Pretty crazy, huh?"
Miranda nodded and studied Rebecca with solemn eyes. "Can we keep her?"

Goodreads Summary:
Staff Sergeant Matt Warwick returns from war with two broken legs—and a shattered future. Abandoned by his fiancée, he withdraws into a protective shell to hide from the pity filled glances thrown his way. His squad worries he’s fallen into depression, and arranges a 1NightStand through the renowned Madame Eve. Matt agrees, but fears he will not be able to satisfy his date, for who would want a crippled man in their bed?
Tiffany Forsen escaped a brutal relationship, and seeks to jump-start her life with a fling. Bars aren’t her scene, so when she hears of the fabulous 1NightStand service, she contacts Madame Eve immediately. All she wants is a night of fun with the hot guy in her picture—but winds up with much more. Can she convince him that when she sees him, she doesn’t see a crippled man…but a hero?
Or will his defenses keep her at arm’s length?
My Opinion:
Broken is about Matt, a broken man with a broken spirit, after he had lost the use of his legs in a war. His squad was worried about him and helped him arranged for a one night stand through Madame Eves. He went on with it but had his fears everything, just because he was crippled...
Tiffany was a therapist who had just gone through a bad relationship and sought the services of Madame Eve for a fling and then she met this man in the elevator that caught her attention...
I have a thing for Diane's books. I love her style of writing and the way she spins her stories. I got hooked after reading her "One On Condition". This story may be just a short novella but it has got everything packed nicely in one great package. Broken is full of emotions, both from Matt and from Tiffany, about their pasts and their doubts. Matt's frustration really stood out in one scene and I think Diane did a great job in Broken. This short read is great for some great reads at night before going to sleep. Recommended for those who is looking for great and fast, satisfying romance read.
Cheers!

Review + Giveaway: The Fine Art of Truth or Dare by Melissa Jensen
Genre: Contemporary YA
Publication Date: February 16, 2012
Format: Paperback
Source: Bought
Rating: 3/5 Stars
Buy: Amazon, Book Depository
Goodreads Summary:
Pretty in Pink meets Anna and the French Kiss in this charming romantic comedy
Ella is nearly invisible at the Willing School, and that's just fine by her. She's got her friends - the fabulous Frankie and their sweet cohort Sadie. She's got her art - and her idol, the unappreciated 19th-century painter Edward Willing. Still, it's hard being a nobody and having a crush on the biggest somebody in the school: Alex Bainbridge. Especially when he is your French tutor, and lessons have started becoming, well, certainly more interesting than French ever has been before. But can the invisible girl actually end up with a happily ever after with the golden boy, when no one even knows they're dating? And is Ella going to dare to be that girl?
My Opinion
Why I bought the book: The "Anna and the French Kiss" in the summary shown on Goodreads + the cute cover. I've totally enjoyed reading Anna and the French Kiss and that line in the summary caught my attention. Totally.
This book is about Fiorella Marino (Ella) is a girl who's obsessed with Edward Willing, a 19th century artist, and enjoys her solidarity talk with him alone. (Talk about weird) She's also writing on him for her thesis. In addition, she's at the bottom of the social heap in school and nobody pay much attention to her. Not until she picked up Alex Bainbridge's textbook and tried to return to him and incidentally received a whack by the back of the chair he was sitting on. (Ouch) Ella has a group of 2 very close friends Sadie and Frankie and they always play a game of truth or dare. (Ella always choose truth by the way). She said that it was the way of asking about one another and show concern. (It's fun to read some of the truths and dares they did). Ella's French tutor assigned a French "tutor" for her since her grades are dropping. Guess who it is? ;) Oh! And Ella has a scar that she is really self-conscious of and she was kinda given a nickname for it... (talk about bad nicknames...) So, how will thinks work out between all of them in school?
Perhaps it was just cause it was said that there's an element of Anna and the French Kiss in it, that I have some sort of expectation for this book. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be. However, The Fine Art of Truth or Dare is an enjoyable comedy read. I've enjoyed reading Ella's French coaching session and the interaction between Ella and you-guess-who. I also love reading the close friendship bond between Ella, Sadie and Frankie. Friends stick together through thick and thin and forgive each other. That's true friendship. What got me a raised brow was Ella's chit-chat session with Edward. Well, imagine talking to a dead person... Overall, I've enjoyed reading Ella's thoughts and emotions and she struggled through her thesis and her crushes (note the plural).
This book is for those who enjoy a contemporary read with an artsy feel to it. :)
Quotes
- Truth (according to Edward Willing): People who rely on first sight are either lazy or deluded.
- I wondered what adjectives were sliding through his mind while his parents looked at him expectantly. This is Ella. She's, um...well, weird, a social misfit, intrusive at best, and potentially stalker-psychotic.
- “sometimes no matter how many eyelashes or dandelion seeds you blow, no matter how much of your heart you tear out and slap on your sleeve, it just ain't gonna happen.”

Review: The Iron Daughter (Iron Fey #2) by Julie Kagawa
Genre: YA Fantasy
Publication Date: August 1, 2010
Format: Paperback
Source: Library
Rating: 5/5 Stars!
Buy: Amazon, Book Depository
Goodreads Summary:
Half Summer faery princess, half human, Meghan has never fit in anywhere. Deserted by the Winter prince she thought loved her, she is prisoner to the Winter faery queen. As war looms between Summer and Winter, Meghan knows that the real danger comes from the Iron fey—ironbound faeries that only she and her absent prince have seen. But no one believes her.
Worse, Meghan's own fey powers have been cut off. She's stuck in Faery with only her wits for help. Trusting anyone would be foolish. Trusting a seeming traitor could be deadly. But even as she grows a backbone of iron, Meghan can't help but hear the whispers of longing in her all-too-human heart.
My Opinion
The second book is all about Meghan Chase and her stay in the Unseelie Court, a deal she made with Ash for helping her to save her brother Ethan. Meghan met the Winter Queen, together with the Princes and Ash turned out to be very cold to her, much to her shock and hurt. Many things happened and the elder prince wound up dead when several Iron Fey came to steal the Sceptor of Seasons, handed over to the Unseelie Court from the Seelie Court as it was the time for winter. Queen Mab blames Oberon for the theft and declared war against the Seelie Court. Ash helped Meghan escape and was considered a traitor for helping the enemy and harming one of his own... Will they be able to recover the Sceptor before everything was too late?
I was confused by Ash behavior towards Meghan. Weren't they supposed to be together? That was what I really thought and I can't help myself and fume on behalf of Meghan, not that she wasn't hurt by his actions. Imagine my relief when the reason was later revealed. Julie Kagawa did a really good job with the emotions and the scenes. Book 2 of Iron Fey series is action-packed and a total page turner. I really couldn't put down the book once I started it and it was the same for the first book as well. The total unpredictable nature of the story keeps me on the edge of my chair and propelled me to turn the pages to find out what would happen next. If you have enjoyed The Iron King, you will LOVE this book.
Quotes
- “I seem to remember a certain someone swearing that she couldn't dance at all. Obviously I must have been with her twin sister, because i was expecting you to step on my toes all night. Been taking lessons, Princess?"
- Puck threw Ash a mocking smile. “You look like crap, Prince. Did you miss
me?”
Ash frowned, stabbing a faery that was clawing at his feet. “What are you
doing here, Goodfellow?” he asked coldly, which only caused Puck’s grin to widen.
“Rescuing the princess from the Winter Court, of course.” Puck looked down
as the wire-fey piled on the squealing boar, ripping and slicing. It exploded into a pile of leaves,
and they skittered back in confusion. “Though it appears I’m saving your sorry ass, as well.”
“I could’ve handled it.”
“Oh, I’m sure.” Puck brandished a pair of curved daggers, the blades clear as
glass. His grin turned predatory. “Well, then, shall we get on with it? Try to keep up, Your
Highness.”
“Just stay out of my way.”
- “Well, this should be easy, then.” Puck smirked. “We’ll just stroll in the front door, waltz up to Virus, grab the scepter, have some tea and save the world before breakfast. Silly me, thinking it would be hard.”

The Iron Daughter (Iron Fey #2) by Julie Kagawa

Lightning flickered in the depths of his jet-black eyes, and the steel tentacles running the length of his spine and shoulders coiled around him like a clock of wings, glinting in the light. Like an avenging angel, he floated toward me, hand outstretched, a sad, tender smile on his lips. - Page 1
I've just started this book right at this moment when I was doing this post. I'm really excited about reading this book because I really love The Iron King. Go Team Ash!!

Review: Torn (Trylle Trilogy #2) by Amanda Hocking
Genre: YA Fantasy
Publication Date: February 28, 2012
Format: Paperback
Source: Bought
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Buy: Amazon, Book Depository
Goodreads Summary:
Amanda Hocking is an indie publishing sensation whose self-published novels have sold millions of copies all over the world. Step into the world of the Trylle, and prepare to be enchanted….
When Wendy Everly first discovers the truth about herself—that she’s a changeling switched at birth—she knows her life will never be the same. Now she’s about to learn that there’s more to the story…
She shares a closer connection to her Vittra rivals than she ever imagined—and they’ll stop at nothing to lure her to their side. With the threat of war looming, her only hope of saving the Trylle is to master her magical powers—and marry an equally powerful royal. But that means walking away from Finn, her handsome bodyguard who’s strictly off limits…and Loki, a Vittra prince with whom she shares a growing attraction.
Torn between her heart and her people, between love and duty, Wendy must decide her fate. If she makes the wrong choice, she could lose everything, and everybody, she’s ever wanted…in both worlds.
As a special gift to readers, this book contains a new, never-before-published bonus story, “One Day, Three Ways,” set in the magical world of the Trylle.
My Opinion:
Torn continues after Switch which left off with Wendy and Rhys leaving Förening to go back to Florida to look for her brother Matt. Of course, Finn managed to keep up with her and her newly assigned tracker, Duncan, subsequently arrived but Wendy refused to go back with them. When the two men left, that was just the opening required by the Vittra and Wendy was severely injured and brought to the Vittra Palace. It came to a surprise that one of the "kidnappers", Loki, was very kind to her and called for a healer (who turned out to be the Queen) to heal Wendy. It was even more surprising when it was revealed the King of Vittra was Wendy's father (And I wasn't expecting this). Duncan, Finn and Tove rescued all three of them and Loki even let them go. This is pretty strange, why would a person let their enemy go? Wendy went back to confront her mother Elora and then later, Loki was caught... What did the King want from them? How would Wendy and Elora react to it? And why was she engaged?
In my opinion, Torn is a smoother read when compared to Switched. Moreover, there's definitely more action from being kidnapped to being rescued and then the counter actions.
What surprises me most in this book is Loki. He's a Vittra but he's actually helping Wendy escape by not retaliating and then complying to her wishes. And when he was later captured by guards in Förening, Wendy reaction strongly to the execution calls. It really seems like there is something more to this Loki character and I really like him.
Finn on the other hand was a little bit of disappointment. "How could he?" This question always ran through my mind as I read some scenes involving him and Wendy.
Nevertheless, I've totally enjoyed Torn. Be sure to read what Wendy has sacrificed in this book.
4/5 Stars for Torn. Really looking forward to Ascend and hope it will be a beautiful ending!
Quotes:
- He stepped into my room with one graceful move, as if entering through bedroom windows was nothing out of the ordinary.
- "I don’t know. After the downstairs, I assumed something creepier and dirtier.” I
shrugged. “You didn’t have electricity down there.”
“It’s for dramatic effect.” Loki gestured widely. “It’s a dungeon.”
- "Did you change your mind and decide to execute me?" Loki asked, looking us over. "Because you all look like you're going to a funeral."
"Not now," I said, figeting with my bracelet and watching the clock.
"Then when, Princess?" Loki asked. "Because we only have about fifteen minutes until I leave."
I rolled my eyes and ignored him.

Review: The Catastrophic History of You and Me by Jess Rothenberg
Genre: YA Urban Fantasy/Paranormal
Publication Date: February 2, 2012
Format: Paperback
Source: Library
Rating: 5/5 Stars
Buy: Amazon, Book Depository
Goodreads Summary:
Dying of a broken heart is just the beginning.... Welcome to forever.
BRIE'S LIFE ENDS AT SIXTEEN: Her boyfriend tells her he doesn't love her, and the news breaks her heartliterally.
But now that she's D&G (dead and gone), Brie is about to discover that love is way more complicated than she ever imagined. Back in Half Moon Bay, her family has begun to unravel. Her best friend has been keeping a secret about Jacob, the boy she loved and lostand the truth behind his shattering betrayal. And then there's Patrick, Brie's mysterious new guide and resident Lost Soul . . . who just might hold the key to her forever after.
With Patrick's help, Brie will have to pass through the five stages of grief before she's ready to move on. But how do you begin again, when your heart is still in pieces?
My Opinion:
The summary really got me. Dying of a broken heart? I mean literally? This sparked me to find out why and it led me on a beautiful and yet emotional journey through Brie's life.
Brie died from a broken heart the moment her boyfriend confessed that he didn't love her while they were having a meal outside. She was only fifteen... And then she met Patrick after she died and then subsequently encouraged her to go back to the living world (though still technically dead)... Then it is the unraveling of the betrayals...
This is my first time reading from a POV of a dead character. Wow... I can literally feel Brie's transition from Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Sadness and Acceptance. Some scenes are really heart wrenching to read but that's what makes the book so beautiful.
I like Patrick, the guy in the leather jacket. He's always around Brie and I think he's sweet! And what we do not know was how he ended up being a Lost Resident until much later and then BANG comes the twist.
Story aside, I think the author clearly uses the Chapter Titles very well and link it to the story chapter and the entire plot. Thumbs up for that!
Overall, a beautiful and emotional story full of betrayals and sacrifices. Please, grab a copy if you haven't done so.
5/5 Stars for The Catastrophic History of You and Me.
Quotes:
- “When you're in love, the world is brighter. Sunnier. The air smells flowerier, and your hair is silkier, and suddenly you find yourself smiling at babies and strangers and old couples walking down the beach holding hands.”
- "That's right," I snapped. "You've made a big mess, Fischer. And I'm here to make sure you do clean it up."
Patrick smacked his head. "Women."
"Onward!" I grabbed his hand. And zoomed us straight to The Burp.
-"War is sweet for those who never fought."

Goodreads Summary:
Twins Sera and Luke Raine have a well-kept secret—she heals with a touch of her hand, he sees the future. All their lives they’ve helped those in need on the sly. They’ve always thought of their abilities as being a gift.
Then Luke has a vision that Sera is killed. That gift they’ve always cherished begins to feel an awful lot like a curse. Because the thing about Luke’s ability? He’s always right. And he can’t do anything about it.
My Opinion:
Intangible is about a twins, Luke and Sera, with the special ability to see the future and heal respectively. They didn't expose themselves to other due to Sera's bad experience with their grandmother despite Luke's warning. However, Luke has a vision of Sera being killed and he was desperate to find a way to change what he saw. But his vision never failed him once. Then, someone was looking for them right now for the power they possessed--someone in the shadows who made use of Marc... In addition, Sera had healed someone who was seriously injured and Sera felt a little difference when healing this lady, who took off running when she saw the mysterious man lurking a distance away. Who was the man? Who were hunting for the twins? Why did they have powers? You'll have to read Intangible to find the answers.
I love the way the story slowly builds up, giving me ample time to get used to the storyline and writing style. Intangible is special as it takes on multiple POVs (though still in third person POV) focusing on different characters throughout the whole book. Initially, I was a little apprehensive as multiple POVs tend to confuse me but I had no such problem with Intangible. It gave me an all rounded view from many characters, allowing me to understand each and every one of them. The downside of this is that it takes away some element of surprise from the story. Nevertheless, Intangible was well-written.
The bond between Luke and Sera was very strong in the story and this is what is so special about Intangbile as most other YA Paranormal books would have focused more on romance. The element of romance is still in the story but only to a small extent. I would have been happy if the romance element turns up to be good but that is why a second book in the series is needed, right? Despite everything, Intangible is a well-written and totally enjoyable book. There is obviously more things for Luke and Sera to be revealed and more about the Shadows. I'm looking forward to book 2.
Quotes
- “Don’t worry,” Sera said as she moved toward the door. “I’m not really here. I’m just…” She paused at the door, not sure what to say, turned back to look at Anne once more and smiled as inspiration struck. “I’m just an angel.”
- “Sera? Where were you?”
“What’s wrong?”
“Where were you?”
“Out saving the world,” she said. “My cape is drying on the porch right now.”
- “Hey.” Marc blew into his hands, rubbed them together.
“Hey yourself.” Luke toasted him with his coffee cup. “Grab a mug and a seat.”
Sera watched Marc stroll back to the bar to place his order.
“Close your mouth, Sera. You’re drooling.” Luke reached over to wipe her chin.
She swatted his hand away. “Am not.”
“Are too. Isn’t she, Fey?”
Fey’s eyes flicked back and forth between the two of them. A smile played on her lips. “I don’t think that puddle on the table is spilled tea,” she said.

Review: City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments #3) by Cassandra Clare
Genre: YA Urban Fantasy
Publication Date: March 24, 2009
Format: Hardcover
Source: Library
Rating: 5/5 Stars!! <3
Buy: Amazon, Book Depository
Goodreads Summary:
To save her mother's life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters -- never mind that enter-ing the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight.
As Clary uncovers more about her family's past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadow-hunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadow-hunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he's willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her newfound powers to help save the Glass City -- whatever the cost?
Love is a mortal sin and the secrets of the past prove deadly as Clary and Jace face down Valentine in the final installment of the New York Times bestselling trilogy The Mortal Instruments.
My Opinion:
I finally got my hands on this book! Was that eager to read what happens to Clary and Jace! So here goes...
In the third book of the series, Clary embarked on a journey to Glass City to find a cure for her mother's coma. She was left behind by Jace, who purposely told her the wrong time for the meeting and she ended up creating a portal and entering it together with Luke, thereby breaking the Law there. Lucky for her, he managed to save her from drowning in Lake Lyn but the cursed water made her ill and she was taken by Luke to his sister Amatis. A lot of things happened in the Glass City. She managed to retrieve the spell book as per Magnus's request but then, the wards protecting the Glass City from demons was broken and all hell break loose... Will Clary be able save her mother and also to convince everyone (Shadowhunters, Faeries, Vampires, Werewolves) to work together against their common enemy? Will Valentine be able to find the last Mortal Instrument and call upon the Angel and the purification of the shadowhunter race?
Frankly speaking, I love The Mortal Instruments series and the world Cassandra Clare creates. There are many scenes which made me smile and chuckle and the author never fail to amaze me with her world. It's great to see that Clary is still strong and courageous in this book. Oh yes! Now I get the answers to Clary and Jace. I'm relieved! Phew! The ending was great and it totally satisfied me. I'm glad that the author decides to continue with the series even though it was originally meant to be a trilogy. I'm craving for MORE!
A MUST READ if you haven't read the series yet.
5/5 Stars for City of Glass.
Quotes:
- “So it's true. You can walk in sunlight. I thought perhaps it might have worn off."
"If I feel the urge to burst into flames, I'll let you know.”
- “Malachi scowled. "I don't remember the Clave inviting you into the Glass City, Magnus Bane."
"They didn't," Magnus said. "Your wards are down."
"Really?" the Consul's voice dripped sarcasm. "I hadn't noticed."
Magnus looked concerned. "That's terrible. Someone should have told you." He glanced at Luke. "Tell him the wards are down.”
- “Is this the part where you say if I hurt her, you'll kill me?"
"No" Simon said, "If you hurt Clary she's quite capable of killing you herself. Possibly with a variety of weapons.

Review: Something About You (FBI / US Attorney #1) by Julie James
Genre: Contemporary Romance (NOT YA)
Publication Date: March 2, 2010
Format: Paperback
Source: Library
Rating: 5/5 Stars
Buy: Amazon, Book Depository
Goodreads Summary:
Of all the hotel rooms rented by all the adulterous politicians in Chicago, female Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron Lynde had to choose the one next to 1308, where some hot-and-heavy lovemaking ends with a death. And of all the FBI agents in Illinois, it had to be Special Agent Jack Pallas who gets assigned to this high-profile homicide. The same Jack Pallas who still blames Cameron for a botched crackdown three years ago- and for nearly ruining his career.
Work with Cameron Lynde? Are they kidding? Maybe, Jack thinks, this is some kind of welcome-back prank after his stint away from Chicago. But it's no joke; the pair is going to have to put their rocky past behind them and focus on the case at hand. That is, if they can cut back on the razor-sharp jibes- and smother the flame of their sizzling-hot sexual tension.
My Opinion:
I'm really glad I picked up this book. This is one total page turner coupled with witty characters and some funny scenes that you wouldn't want to miss! Great read!
Female Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron Lynde had to stay into a hotel as her house was undergoing some renovations. Guess she was out of luck when she picked a room right next to a noisy and loud couple and one of them turned out dead later on. You think that's bad? It was even worse for her when Special Agent Jack Pallas was assigned to this homicide case, the same agent who blamed her for blotching a case three years ago... There's so serious bad blood going between the two of them. This was not the time for the two of them to be going at each other's throat. Cameron was the sole witness to the homicide case and Jack had to ensure her safety. Of course the murderer found out about the witness and sought to endanger her... and that only led to Jack moving in to live with Cameron in her big house to protect her...
I enjoy reading and knowing Cameron. She's totally intelligent and witty! I simply ADORE her. Simply courageous! Her two closest friends were cool as well!
Now, there's really something about Agent Jack. He's totally HOT. He rides motorcycle and zooms off to look for Cameron when she wasn't picking up her phone calls and thinking something might have happened. Wow. And then he brought her back--on his motorcycle! That's a scene I like to re-read!
Something About You has the right amount of romance, suspense and comedy in it! I really like Julie Jame's style of writing and it led me to finishing the book in one seating. Yes! I couldn't put down the book at all, wanting to find out how things progresses between the two characters. I'm going to read all her books. Yes, you read that right. All her books.
5/5 Stars for Something About You.
Quotes:
- “Cameron looked over her shoulder just as Jack stalked into the tent. He got his first glimpse of the back of her dress. Or lack thereof.
He stopped dead in his tracks.
"Wow."
His eyes lingered on her for another moment before he turned to Amy, gesturing. "This place looks great, Amy. You did one hell of a job."
Amy grinned. "Nice recovery, Jack.”
- “Cameron looked over her shoulder just as Jack stalked into the tent. He got his first glimpse of the back of her dress. Or lack thereof.
He stopped dead in his tracks.
- "Don't be disappointed," Jack said. "The fact that I've been ridiculously proud of you for days doesn't change how excited you should be about this. Besides, I pretty much know everything. You should probably just start getting used to it."

Jack cocked his head. Wait a second... He couldn't decide if he was pissed or really impressed. He hooked a finger into the waistband of the workout pants she'd changed into and pulled her closer.
"Did you fake me out with those tears, Cameron?" - Page 217
A witty and hilarious book so far. I've totally enjoyed it!

Review: Everneath by Brodi Ashton
Genre: YA Paranormal
Publication Date: January 24, 2012
Format: Hardcover
Source: Library
Rating: 5/5 Stars
Buy: Amazon, Book Depository
Goodreads Summary:
Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath, where immortals Feed on the emotions of despairing humans. Now she's returned- to her old life, her family, her friends- before being banished back to the underworld... this time forever.
She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can't find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.
Nikki longs to spend these months reconnecting with her boyfriend, Jack, the one person she loves more than anything. But there's a problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who first enticed her to the Everneath, has followed Nikki to the mortal world. And he'll do whatever it takes to bring her back- this time as his queen.
As Nikki's time grows short and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she's forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole's...
My Opinion
6 months to say goodbye...
Nikki Beckett vanished last spring to the underworld called Everneath. Now she's back but she only has 6 months in the mortal world before Everneath comes back to claim her, and this time, forever. Will she be able to make things right before it is time for her to go again?
Everneath is an enchanting book which just draws you in, following Nikki as she narrates her story for us. The author has cleverly written the book in such a way that you get to glimpse into Nikki's past here and there. It's great and the chronological change doesn't confuse me.
What I particularly like about this book was the romance between Jack and Nikki. I could see that it slowly builds up from friends to loves. And there's this complication known as the person Cole, whom Nikki had spent 100 years in Everneath with. He keeps trying to lure Nikki away but luckily for her, she kept true to Jack.
Everneath is a book that will take your breath away. It's a book of emotions and sacrifice. What would you do if you knew you only have 6 months left?
5/5 Stars for Everneath. Awaiting for the next book in the series.

- “Sometimes, when something hurts us, our hearts break a little-in a slightly ... more literal way than for humans. Our pain sort of spills out and onto anyone around us. We call it a cracked heart.”

I won't get over it if you keep coming back. Losing you once was hard enough. And now you're here again and everything's coming back. I'm going to get screwed. And I can't do it again.”

Review: Sirensong (Faeriewalker #3) by Jenna Black
Genre: YA Fantasy
Publication Date: July 5, 2011
Format: Paperback
Source: Library
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Buy: Amazon | Book Depository
Goodreads Summary:
When Dana is invited to Faerie to be officially presented at the Seelie Court, it’s no easy decision. After all, everyone knows Titania, the Seelie Queen, wants her dead. But Titania claims not to be the one behind the death threats; and her son, Prince Henry, makes the decision a whole lot easier when he suggests Dana might be arrested for (supposedly) conspiring with her aunt Grace to usurp the Seelie throne. So she and her father better do as they're told . . .
The journey through Faerie is long—and treacherous. Dana thought it would be a good idea to have friends along, but her sort-of-boyfriend, Ethan, and her bodyguard’s son, Keane, just can’t seem to get along, and Kimber’s crush on Keane isn’t making things any easier. When a violent attack separates Dana from their caravan, the sexy Erlking saves her just in the nick of time . . . and makes it clear that he hasn’t given up on making her his own.
Arriving at Titania’s beautiful palace should be a relief. But Dana is soon implicated in an assassination attempt against Titania’s granddaughter, and is suddenly a fugitive, forced to leave her father behind as she and her friends flee for their lives. Will she be able to prove her innocence before the forces of the Seelie Court—or, worse, the Erlking—catch up with her? And will she save her father before he pays the ultimate price in her stead?
My Opinion:
In the third book of the series, Dana was invited by the Seelie Queen to be presented in court and was escorted by Prince Henry's troops. Ethan, Kimber, Keane and Finn joined as well as per Dana's request. It's fun to read the angry sparks between Ethan and Keane. They thought they would be safe under Prince Henry's protection but they were among the last of the whole procession (which was quite an insult to them). That's when the attack started... Dana was separated from her group as her horse broke away from the procession in fright. Unable to control her horse, Dana was helpless against the things that were coming for her. At this point of time, the Erlking came to the rescue and brought her back to her group. Imagine the shock they have and the Erlking's appearance enraged Prince Henry. Why were they attacked? And why was it that only Dana's horse was spooked? More importantly, what would happen to Dana when she was put under suspicion for planting a bomb in the Princess's seat and killing her? Would Dana survive through everything when the rest of her group was caught? Read Sirensong to find out.
I love to read how the romance builds up between Dana and Ethan and the added spark when put Keane joins in. A surprise came to me between Keane and Dana and boy... Ethan was furious! It's interesting to read how Dana struggled with herself and then being told by Erlking she could not save everyone and that she has to choose. What a difficult decision Dana has to make. Seriously. But then the ending... kind of disappointing to me. Not much closure in my opinion. There's the Unseelie Queen that's not touched on... Dana's mother's still sadly the same... I sincerely hope there'll be another book for the Faeriewalker series. It just couldn't end like that. What about Connor? I would have given Sirensong a 5 Stars but decided to give only a 4 given my considerations about the book.
Overall, it's still an enjoyable read about the Seelie Court.
4/5 Stars for Sirensong.

In My Mailbox #8

In My Mailbox is hosted by The Story Siren.
This are what I've borrowed and received for the past week.

Borrowed from the Library: (Still, I gotta love my library!)
The Catastrophic History of You and Me by Jess Rothenberg - Got myself a copy after Celine has read it. :)
The Iron Daughter by Julie Kagawa - After The Iron King, who wouldn't want the second book for this series?
So, what did you receive for the past week?
Dark Territory (The Tracks Book 1) by J. Gabriel Gates and Charlene Keel
Genre: YA Paranormal
Publication Date: July 1, 2011
Format: Paperback
Source: Library
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Buy: Amazon | Amazon Kindle | Book Depository | Kobobooks
Goodreads Summary:
Star-crossed love, supernatural evil, and martial arts meet at the abandoned tracks in the deceptively quaint village of Middleburg . . .
When Ignacio Torrez moved from the rough streets of LA to a small town dead smack in the middle of nowhere, he never expected to find himself in the midst of a gang war. But, he soon learns, these are no ordinary gangs. The wealthy, preppie Toppers on one side of the tracks and the working-class Flatliners on the other adhere to a strict code of honor and use their deadly martial arts skills, taught to them by the wise Master Chin, to battle one another for pride, territory, and survival. When Raphael, leader of the Flatliners, falls forAimee, a Topper girl, the rival gangs prepare for a bloody, all-out war. The only hope for peace between them lies within the dark territory of the abandoned train tunnels where the tracks cross. Under the direction of the mysterious and frightening Magician, the awesome power within the crossing sends the rivals on a terrifying mystical quest to fight the malevolent force that threatens the existence of Middleburg-and quite possibly, the world.
My Opinion:
I thought this book was just about gang wars between two gangs, the Toppers (the haves) and the Flatliners (the have nots). I was wrong about it.
What is interesting about this book is that it is about martial arts. The leaders of each gang (Toppers-Zhai, Flatliners-Raphael) were taught by Master Chin to adhere to a strict code of honor. But when Raphael unwittingly falls for Aimee, A Topper girl, everything went downhill from there. There was something more than meets the eyes, and it involves the dark territory of the abandoned train tunnels...
Be ready to be wowed by the number of characters in the book. They are all great and closely linked to one another within their own gang. You could read the tension in the atmosphere whenever the two gangs clashed. It's quite a thick book and once I got past the first half of the book, it got a little better and more interesting when the paranormal element came in though I find it was pretty short. Still, it was an interesting concept to bring many elements together- martial arts, mystery, romance, paranormal and action.
I must say I've enjoyed it and it would be better if the book was just a little bit shorter in length.
4/5 stars for Dark Territory.
Teasers:
- But just as he reached the window, the light inside blazed on. His head snapped around toward the glass, and he was paralyzed for a moment. Just inside the doorway of the room, her hand still on the light switch, stood Aimee Banfield, her eyes locked on his. (Page 126)
- "But the word you wrote--murderer. That was... about me." (Page 162)
- "Well, it looks like we're competing again, old friend," Zhai said.
"I'm soing to win," Raphael replied.
"Not this time."
"Well. I guess we'll find out, won't we?" (Page 382)
