{Adult ebook Review} My Boogie Woogie Bugle Guy by D.L. Jackson

My Boogie Woogie Bugle Guy by D.L. Jackson
ebook, First, 46 pages
Published June 1st 2012 by Decadent Publishing

Genre: Adult erotic romance
Source: Review copy from publisher
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Goodreads Summary:
When Grace Daniels goes to the cemetery to visit the grave of her twin brother, she meets a soldier, there for the same reason, or at least that’s what she believes until he tells her about the blind date her brother arranged before he was killed in combat.

It’s the date of her dreams. Big band, brass and sass, Madame Eve from 1NightStand has set her up for an unforgettable night, a WWII swing dance party. Unfortunately, she’s having trouble letting go of her past and is afraid to take the chance given to her.

Sergeant Frank Winters is an Army trumpet player who travels with the Color Guard, a great dancer, and six feet four inches of eye candy that could make her an addict. He’s also a soldier and soldiers can get killed. Grace doesn’t have the heart to lose someone again, but Frank knows a good thing when he sees it, and he’s determined to show her in one night, she’s got more to lose if she walks away.
I really like the way the two of them met as it was really appropriate, given their circumstances. Grace lost her brother while Frank lost his friend. Because of her brother, Frank had to find Grace to fulfill his part of her brother's wish. Will Grace go with the one night stand that her brother had arranged for her, knowing that he might not be able to return from his deployment?

As I've mentioned, I like the idea of two people having to meet up because something happened. In this case, it was the death of Grace's brother and his letter and arrangement with Madame Eve. I was a little surprised that Grace had to meet Frank at the cemetery while he was drunk. Seriously? I was a little worried about what would happen next because of his silliness. Luckily, I was not disappointed. I enjoyed the entire story and its humor portion. However, I do feel the ending was a little rushed and I was hoping for a little gossip from Grace's neighbor. That would be fun!

I have enjoyed reading this book and I feel that it is a great read for those military lovers!

{ebook Review} TimeRiders by Alex Scarrow

TimeRiders by Alex Scarrow
Series: TimeRiders #1
ebook, 416 pages
Published August 31st 2010 by Walker Childrens

Genre: YA Science Fiction
Source: Borrowed
Rating: 4/5 Stars

Maddy should have died in a plane crash. Liam should have died at sea when the Titanic sank. Sal should have died in a tragic fire. But a mysterious man whisked them away to safety.

Maddy, Liam, and Sal quickly learn that time travel is no longer just a hope for the future; it is a dangerous reality. And they weren’t just rescued from their terrible fates. . . they were recruited for the agency of TimeRiders created to protect the world from those seeking to alter the course of history for personal gain.

By reliving the highly documented events in New York City on 9/11, they can closely monitor history for any deviations—large or small. When just such a change is detected, they are alerted that a threat is at hand unleashing the evil of the Nazis to wreak havoc with Earth’s present and future. Can Maddy, Liam, and Sal fulfill their destinies as keepers of time to save the world from utter destruction?

An exhilarating adventure that shifts readers back in time to Nazi Germany and then forward into an ever-changing present.
I happened to see this book on one of my book shopping trip and was immediately intrigued by its cover. When I found out that it was a book on time travel, I knew I have to read this book. I was surprised when I flipped to the contents page because there's so many chapters! There is a total of 93 chapters but each chapter wasn't lengthy so it's kind of a fast read.

The author had a way with capturing my attention from the beginning. There's almost actions in every chapter. The story begins with Liam and Maddy and the dangerous situation in which they were in, both of which led to their ultimate deaths but they were picked up by a mysterious man before death actually happened. Sal was already picked up by the man earlier. So the three were brought back to build a team. They were chosen for their skills and to make things unique for the book, all of them were from a different year so it is amusing to read their reactions to the more advanced gadgets (especially Liam who was saved from the Titanic). They were a group formed to stop time distortions so that history was not rewritten. And the story goes on.

I took one star off because it was confusing at certain parts, especially in the dangerous situation nearer to the end. I kept wondering why and how did it happen. Also, I dislike what happened to Bob and you will have to read what happened to him on your own. They were all the agency was left with and I'm really curious about what will happen next after the first wave was cleared. Looking forward to reading book 2! Fans of time travel will enjoy TimeRiders!

Opening paragraphs:
'Anyone left here on deck E?' cried Liam O'Connor. His voice echoed down the narrow passageway, bouncing off the metal walls. 'Anyone down here?'

It was silent save for the muffled cries and clatter of hasty footsteps coming from the deck above and the deep mournful creak of the ship's hull, stressing and stretching as the bow end of the ship slowly dipped below the ocean's surface.

(I was reading on my phone and I didn't manage to highlight the quotes and hence I substituted it with opening paragraph)

{Cover Reveal} Blood Doll by Georgia Cates

Blood Doll by Georgia Cates
Current release date: January 2013

Summary:
Solomon Alexander has faced huge obstacles during his existence, but they’re nothing in comparison to the one he’s about to hit head on. As leader of The Savannah Compound, part of Sol’s new position in the Coven of Landra is to guide the transition of fledgelings, newly turned vampires. It’s his job to save the unsavable. Being a Landra is what he’s done for over a century and he’s damn good at it, but everything he knows, practices and teaches is threatened when he is forced to drink from Avery Ferrand, a Blood Jewel.

The Blood Jewel is enshrouded with mystery, but one fact is known. There’s never been blood more desirable or addicting than Avery’s and there are consequences for any vampire that drinks it...including Solomon Alexander. Although he adamantly denies his need to feed from her, Avery suspects he’s lying but she has secrets of her own about the night he drank from her. She wanted him to and now she finds herself being drawn to Solomon in a way she shouldn't. As Avery’s desire to be closer to Solomon grows, she finds herself considering something more dangerous than being found by the dangerous covens hunting her...asking Solomon if she can become his Blood Doll.

{Blog Tour ebook Review} Never Say Never by Kailin Gow

Never Say Never by Kailin Gow
Series: Never Knights #1
Paperback, 245 pages
Published August 13th 2012 by theEDGEbooks.com

Genre: New Adult
Source: Bought
Rating: 4/5 Stars

Goodreads Summary:
What girl wouldn't want to be surrounded by the sexy guys from the hottest teen rock sensation in the country? 18-year-old Never "Neve" Knight, not only is surrounded by the hottest boys to hit the music charts, but she is the band's lead singer. As the band's lead singer and manager, Never formed and shaped the band to where it is today, a band on the rise and on the brink of being signed by a label. As one of the guys, she knew each of the band members since they were all snot-nose ten-year-olds. While her boys were the cutest guys and they would protect her like knights, she couldn't date any one of them and ruin the chance at being signed with the record label of her dreams.

That changes when one of the band members suddenly drops out of the band, and in walks Danny Blue, with his dreamy blue eyes, hot body, and British accent. Suddenly, Never's solid world has turned to mush, and her rule for not dating one of her band members is seriously challenged. Can she keep her head straight and get her band signed with a label without losing her heart?

My Opinion:
Kailin has created another wonderful book with great characters. The story flowed very naturally and I find myself being absorbed into the book. It was definitely a page turner for me as I kept wanting to find out what will happen to Neve, the daughter of a rock star father. However, she never once tried to use her dad's name to bring her band to fame and I truly admire her determination. She also kept her band a secret from her father from fear he would ban her from playing. And goodness, those band mates of hers were totally cool, each with their own unique personality. It was obvious all of them likes Neve but she has a strict policy of no dating within the band since she has seen what it has done to other bands. However, when one accident led to Geoff being dropped out of the band and a new band member came in... she's so going to break her own rule. Danny? Danny who? Why is there a sort of instant attraction to him? Even I look forward to following him throughout the book. I'm definitely waiting eager for the second book in the series to read more about all of them!

Quotes:
  • “I was stranded last night – I mean, this morning. And I couldn't get home and my phone was dead so I went back in to find you but you were asleep, and, uh...”
“Unclad?” Danny couldn't help but betray a hint of a smile. One hell of a sexy smile.

  • “Well, I feel better knowing Kyle's with you,” my mother admitted. “He's at least sensible, as opposed to my stubborn, hot-headed little girl...”
“I prefer the term ‘passionate’,” I smiled.

  • "Out!" My mother declared, and my dad sighed and shuffled away. "Our daughter needs her Mommy, don't you, sweetie?"
"Goodnight, Crabcakes," my father said. "I can see where I'm not needed. Just time me where to send the hit men."

Tall, Dark, and Divine by Jenna Bennett

Published July 20th 2012 by Entangled Publishing: Covet

Goodreads Summary:
Eros, the Greek god of love, swore off the useless emotion after his ex ran off with some Viking godling. He's lost all interest in his matchmaking business, Made in Heaven, until he spots the sweet baker who works across the street. Before she stirs his sullen heart, he'll match her and get back to his ambrosia-laced wine in no time.

Lonely baker Annie Landon has given up on finding Mr. Right. What she needs is Mr. Right Here, Right Now, and this so-called “Greek God” she’s heard is on the rebound sounds exactly like the perfect kind of distraction. But picking up the bitter, workaholic is easier said than done…especially when he seems unreasonably determined to match her with someone else.

Can a woman looking for love—and the matchmaking god who wants her to find it with someone else—have a shot at a happy ending? May the best god—or mortal—win.

Why wishlist?
The word "Greek God" captured my attention immediately and when I read the rest of the synopsis, I know I have to get the book soon!

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Hardcover, 312 pages
Expected publication: September 18th 2012 by Spencer Hill Press

Goodreads Summary:

Dying sucks--and high school senior Ember McWilliams knows firsthand. After a fatal car accident, her gifted little sister brought her back. Now anything Ember touches dies. And that, well, really blows.

Ember operates on a no-touch policy with all living things--including boys. When Hayden Cromwell shows up, quoting Oscar Wilde and claiming her curse is a gift, she thinks he’s a crazed cutie. But when he tells her he can help control it, she’s more than interested. There’s just one catch: Ember has to trust Hayden's adopted father, a man she's sure has sinister reasons for collecting children whose abilities even weird her out. However, she’s willing to do anything to hold her sister's hand again. And hell, she'd also like to be able to kiss Hayden. Who wouldn't?

But when Ember learns the accident that turned her into a freak may not've been an accident at all, she’s not sure who to trust. Someone wanted her dead, and the closer she gets to the truth, the closer she is to losing not only her heart, but her life. For real this time.

Oh yay! After reading Obsidian, I feel in love with her style of writing. I'm definitely waiting for this! Are you waiting for Cursed too?

{Adult Book Review} Bride For A Night by Rosemary Rogers

Bride For A Night by Rosemary Rogers
Mass Market Paperback, 384 pages
Published September 20th 2011 by Harlequin

Genre: Adult Historical Romance
Source: Overdrive
Rating: 4/5 Stars

Goodreads Summary:
After Talia Dobson is jilted at the altar, she endures another humiliation: a substitute groom! The elder brother of her runaway betrothed has taken matters into his own hands. Shy Talia has long held a secret attraction for Gabriel Richardson, the handsome Earl of Ashcombe. But when she's wedded, bedded and dispatched alone to his country estate, the timid beauty discovers one night of passion has ignited a bold inner fire.

While his lovely green-eyed bride is out of sight, she is not far from Gabriel's mind and when Talia is abducted by French spies, the earl fears he may lose what he's only just found. Yet the wife he races to rescue is a far cry from the gentle bride he abandoned. She's a woman who dares to demand forever after from her husband.

My Opinion:
I had to shake my head at Gabriel's actions at the beginning of the book. The rest? I'm totally glad to see that he has come around and realize what he was feeling. I was cheering on for Talia throughout the whole book. I find that Talia was a tough character. She endured the humiliation and took everything in stride even though she was cast aside after her marriage. Despite all these, Talia did not wallow in self-pity but continued to be strong and soon gained the respect of her husband's staff. The story is enjoyable and filled with little surprises. The story turned pretty good from when she was abducted by French spies and got even better with the rescue. This story is definitely for those who enjoy a little escape into historical romance!

Quote:
  • "I did not expect you."
"Obviously." He stopped directly before her and lowered his hand to tug at the ribbon of her hideous robe. "Or did you choose this garment in the hopes it would send me fleeing in terror?"

  • "Your instincts are growing slow with your old age, Ashcombe." Hugo made a show of returning his dueling pistol to the pocket of his dark cloak he had pulled over his pale green jacket and gray breeches. "I could have used you for target practice."

  • "Hugo did mention you were reluctant to leave until he convinced you that it would be best to have you safely away from the danger."
"He did not convince me. He threatened to knock me over the head with the oar if I attempted to escape from the boat."

{Cover Reveal} Beyond the Veil by Quinn Loftis

Are you ready?

Here goes...

But first, let us take a look at the summary:

Goodreads Summary

Though the Serbian pack has been brought to heel thanks to the downfall of their Alpha, the war is far from over.

Desdemona, a witch of unfathomable power, has escaped the wolves’ wrath, but she will not go quietly into the night. She takes refuge in a place where even the smallest sliver of light does not dare to enter. Though she had to flee, she has not given up on the treasure she wishes to acquire. Her depravity knows no bounds; she's even willing to search for the one who can assist her in opening a Veil that has not been opened in millennia – with good reason: the danger is incalculable.

Meanwhile, there are major changes rippling through the Romanian Grey wolves. Decebel has become Alpha to the Serbian pack in an effort to begin to unite the Canis lupis species. Their numbers are dwindling in the wake of the shortage of true mates and lack of offspring. The wolves are beginning to lose faith and darkness seems to be crashing in on them from all sides. But the winds of change are blowing, changes that will alter the future of not only the Canis lupis, but of another ancient race as well.

Amidst all of this, Sally is continuing to come to terms with her relationship with the playful, charming, flirty, unbelievably handsome bartender – who happens to be a member of the Romanian pack.

If all that weren’t enough, the Fates have decided to pay a little visit to Jen. It’s time to collect. She cheated the Fates of a life, her life. Now they want what they are due. The problem? It’s more than Jen is willing to pay.

Yes, the war is indeed far from over. Bargains will be struck, declarations will be made, sacrifices will be given, love will be tested, and trust will be questioned as evil makes its stand against them all.

And here's the cover!

{ebook Review} Public Adoration by L.C. Dean

ebook, 24 pages
Published June 19th 2012 by Decadent Publishing

Genre: Erotica
Source: From publisher in exchange for an honest review
Rating: 2.5/5Stars

Goodreads Summary:
Jonas Wright wants his wife back in his arms and in his bed where she belongs. Grief and weight gain have skewed her body image until she cannot see the sexy woman he desires with his every breath. Nearly out of time and out of options, he risks losing her forever in a desperate, public attempt to show her how gorgeous she still is. If it takes the groans of strangers to make her realize the truth, so be it, as long as she offers her soft body to only him.

My Opinion:
An extreme action to get his wife to be confident about herself and that he still crave for her despite her appearance. Although interesting, I cannot fathom how her husband's action will allow her to feel his love for her and I find Jonas a little pushy. However, I do appreciate his efforts to show his wife what he felt. This is a quick read for those who love shorter (and extreme) stories as it can be easily finished in one sitting.

Opening line:
Jonas Wright reached for his wife's hand as they crossed Lazelle Street, but she ignored him.

{Book Review} Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James

Just The Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James
Mass Market Paperback, 296 pages
Published October 7th 2008 by Berkley Sensation

Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance
Source: Library
Rating: 5/5 Stars

Goodreads Summary:
No woman could resist him—except the one he wanted most...

Cool, Calm, Collected...

Nothing fazes Taylor Donovan. In the courtroom she never lets the opposition see her sweat. In her personal life, she never lets any man rattle her—not even her cheating ex-fiancé. So when she's assigned to coach People's "Sexiest Man Alive" for his role in his next big legal thriller, she refuses to fall for the Hollywood heartthrob's charms. Even if he is the Jason Andrews.

Confident, Famous, Irresistible...

Jason Andrews is used to having women fall at his feet. When Taylor Donovan gives him the cold shoulder, he's thrown for a loop. She's unlike any other woman he's ever met: uninterested in the limelight, seemingly immune to his advances, and shockingly capable of saying no to him. She's the perfect challenge. And the more she rejects him, the more he begins to realize she may just be his perfect match.

My Opinion
It's easy to fall in love with Julie's books. This is the third book of hers that I've read and I find myself fully entertained by it. It's also a fun read and that alone is the reason why you should pick up a book if you like contemporary romance and like reading about lawyers (and Hollywood actor).

Just The Sexiest Man Alive is about Taylor, a lawyer, who was tasked with coaching Hollywood actor, Andrew, for his upcoming thriller. He was supposed to arrive at her office but ended up missing their appointment without any notice. She got really angry when she found out from the news that he was actually enjoying himself somewhere! Although it was a pretty predictable storyline, I find myself charmed by the story and by Taylor's attitude. I was laughing my head off at the way Taylor was "cross-examining" Andrew in the mock court room. How will the two of them progress? Will Taylor offer to coach Andrew after he refused to turn up for the first appointment? Read Just The Sexiest Man Alive to find out!

Quotes:

  • "Why me? Really, Jason. Why me?"
Hmm... his first name again. This was indeed progress. Moving in, Jason gazed down at her with a devilish smile.
"What can I say, Ms. Donovan? ... You intrigue me."
    It did the trick.

  • "What on earth have you done to him? Kate asked, taking in the limo outside.
"Oh, you know, slammed a few doors in his face, hung up on him a couple of times, tossed around a slew of insults."
Kate nodded. "Ah, the usual stuff."

  • "I realized that the one person who could break my heart is the only one who should have it."

“No matter how much you think you know a person - no matter how pretty they act, or how popular they seem, you can never know what their lives are really like.”

I totally agree with that quote!
Do you?

Summer Wrap-Up Read-a-Thon - Update/Wrap Up Post

I'm sorry I haven't update much for this Read-a-Thon. I spent my time working and reading and writing. Nevertheless, it is a fulfilling event since I've manged to read several books.

My Progress:
Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare
Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James (Review to be up soon)
Bride for a Night by Rosemary Rogers (Review to be up soon)
Public Adoration by L.C. Dean (Adult) (Review to be up soon)
First Frost by  Liz DeJesus (35%)

I ended up changing the books I intended to read for the readathon, kind of a last minute decision but they are so worth it! Will be reviewing them soon!

Challenges:
For one summer night, you have the opportunity to be any paranormal creature that you want. What creature you would be and what you would want to do?

The first thing that came to my mind was fairy. They are so magical and really intrigues me immensely. I wonder how it feels like to be a fairy.
