Review: Shooting Stars by Allison Rushby

Genre: Contemporary YA
Publication Date: February 28, 2012
Format: Paperback
Source: Loaned from Library
Rating: 5/5 Stars (LOVE IT!!)

Goodreads Summary:
Meet Josephine Foster, or Zo Jo as she’s called in the biz. The best pint-sized photographer of them all, Jo doesn’t mind doing what it takes to get that perfect shot, until she’s sent on an undercover assignment to shoot Ned Hartnett—teen superstar and the only celebrity who’s ever been kind to her—at an exclusive rehabilitation retreat in Boston. The money will be enough to pay for Jo’s dream: real photography classes, and maybe even quitting her paparazzi gig for good. Everyone wants to know what Ned’s in for. But Jo certainly doesn’t know what she’s in for: falling in love with Ned was never supposed to be part of her assignment.

My Opinion
Shooting Stars is a fun, fast and cute read which I totally loved and enjoyed!

Enter Josephine Foster (or Jo or Zo Jo), a child paparazzo who used her age and her little height to gain entry to places where no others were allowed. Yes, talk about dirty tricks to get to where she wanted to be and snapping pictures on unsuspecting stars. Then she landed herself with a very well paid undercover job to shoot teen superstar Ned Hartnett at an exclusive retreat facility in Boston. He's someone whom she would never forget, the only one who has been kind to her in her paparazzo line which involves him rescuing her (sort of) and giving her a tip on how she could use her age and height as an advantage--one that she had followed and had led her back to him. However, as time progressed in the facility, Jo found something in Ned that was real off. What was it exactly? What's worse, Jo was falling in love with her target.

Be ready for the story twist!

Follow Jo as she battle her inner conscience to take pictures of Ned in the facility and as she unravel the conspiracy that she was unwittingly thrown into. Be sure to read what happens in the facility! And what's with the swimming pool thing again? ;)

Overall, this is a totally enjoyable and cute read. I love reading from Jo's POV. She's witty and obviously has a goal in mind and she's determined to achieve it. And again, she's strong enough to stop whatever she thought was wrong even though it meant destroying what she'd built up thus far. She's strong! (And cute too!) I think it's difficult to dislike her as you continue to read on. Oh, and that cover! I simply adore the cover! Way cute!

If you are in for a relaxed and fun read, this is just the book for you!

5/5 Stars for Shooting Stars!

And I must remind you again, I love this book!

  4. Oh my gosh, Michelle, this book sounds PERFECT. If I count how many contemporary books I've loved, there probably wouldn't be that many because I'm more of a paranormal girl, but this one sounds so adorable with the whole paparazzi story! :) And I love that cover!

Beautiful review, Michelle! <3 And thanks for the warning about the plot twist -- I'll definitely be bracing myself for it when I read the book now! :)
