Goodreads Summary:
Maddie Chester is determined to leave her hometown of Gansett Island, a place that has brought her only bad memories and ugly rumors. Then she’s knocked off her bike on the way to her housekeeping job at McCarthy’s Resort Hotel by Gansett’s “favorite son,” Mac McCarthy. He’s back in town to help his father with preparations to sell the family resort and has no intention of staying long. When Mac accidentally sends Maddie flying over the handlebars, badly injuring her, he moves in to nurse her back to health and help care for her young son. He soon realizes his plans for a hit-and-run visit to the island are in serious jeopardy, and he just may be “maid” for love.
My Opinion
Maid for Love is an enjoyable contemporary romance about a woman, Maddie Chester, who was scorned by the people on the island due to some rumours spread about her when she was in high school and it involved boys. It didn't help much when she was currently a single parent and had to work hard to make ends work for her baby son, Thomas, and herself. On her way to work, she encountered her boss's favorite son Mac McCarthy by knocking into him on her bike. This accident left her seriously bruised and unable to work. Mac offered to help her and even carried the injured Maddie to seek medical treatment at his friend's place. Seeing how desperate she was about her work, he offered to fill in the position for her and to take care of her son after the work at the hotel's housekeeping department has ended since it was his fault she was injured. Will Maddie's heart finally melt and accept Mac? What difficulties lay ahead for the both of them?
This is a cute story with an unexpected start. Who would have thought about a bicycle injury that leads to a man offering to take care of the lady and even take care of her son? It's nice reading Maddie's reservations about Mac because of her past. I can empathize with her on that. But that was what made her lose sight of what's really important to her. At times, I felt like hammering her on the head to get her to wake up and see Mac for who he was! Ugh... But other than that, she's a protective mother who loves her son. Mac, on the other hand, was sweet. Really sweet. He took care of Maddie and Thomas, filled up the position at the housekeeping department for Maddie, and even demanded that she receive better treatment from her superiors at the hotel. He also took her on dates and let her have fun. Who can turn down such a man? Certainly not me!
This is one Happily Ever After story that all contemporary romance lovers should read.
Quotes
- Oh! He's so sanctimonious and infuriating! "Fine! If you have some sort of macho need to see this through to the gruesome finish, you can take me home, but for the love of God, take me out the back door so I'm not any more of a public spectacle."
- "Why didn't you tell us you were coming?""I didn't want Mom going crazy cooking and cleaning.""She does go nuts when one of the prodigal sons comes home.""That's because we're special."
- "What's her name?""Rosanne.""Is she beautiful?""You're beautiful.""Nice try. What does she look like?""Short with buck teeth and a wart on her nose. Nothing at all to look at."Maddie dissolved into laughter. "You're so full of it. She probably looks like a super model."Mac linked his fingers with hers. "She can't hold a candle to you."
