Goodreads Summary:
The Mortal War is over, and sixteen-year-old Clary Fray is back home in New York, excited about all the possibilities before her. She's training to become a Shadowhunter and to use her unique power. Her mother is getting married to the love of her life. Downworlders and Shadowhunters are at peace at last. And - most importantly of all - she can finally call Jace her boyfriend.

But nothing comes without a price.

Someone is murdering Shadowhunters who used to be in Valentine's Circle, provoking tensions between Downworlders and Shadowhunters that could lead to a second bloody war. Clary's best friend, Simon, can't help her. His mother just found out that he's a vampire and now he's homeless. Everywhere he turns, someone wants him on their side - along with the power of the curse that's wrecking his life. And they're willing to do anything to get what they want. At the same time he's dating two beautiful, dangerous girls - neither of whom knows about the other one.

When Jace begins to pull away from Clary without explaining why, she is forced to delve into the heart of a mystery whose solution reveals her worst nightmare: She herself has set in motion a terrible chain of events that could lead to her losing everything she loves. Even Jace.

Love. Blood. Betrayal. Revenge. The stakes are higher than ever in City of Fallen Angels.

My Opinion
City of Fallen Angels takes place a few weeks after City of Glass. I was a little confused at first because I've thought that the The Mortal Instruments was completed at the third book since the ending was pretty perfect but hey, I'm not complaining! Now I've got more chance to read about the wonderful characters in the series! Yay!

City of Fallen Angels is an entertaining continuation for The Mortal Instruments series. In the beginning of the book, more focus was put into Simon, showing how he was coping with his new found status and his girls problem. Then some things happened and the story continues from there.

While the plot is good and the book is a page turner for me, I find book 4 not as good as compared to the previous 3 books. I'm still trying to figure out why and the first thing that came to mind was how Jace was acting in the book and perhaps his relationship with Clary. He's not himself! But at least there were some good scenes for the couple. <3 In addition, there are some things that i think were unresolved in book 4, like Simon's mom. I guess I'm going to have to read City of Lost Souls to find out more!

And oh my gosh, that cliffhanger at the end! *bangs head* That made me want to read City of Lost Souls even more! I need to get my hands on the 5th book now!

I recommend the series to those who fancy a little urban fantasy. :)

Quotes

  • "I'm joking," he said. "You are not so bad. You'll get there. You should have seen Alec do flips at first. I think he kicked himself in the head once."
"Sure," said Clary. "But he was probably eleven." She eyed him. "I suppose you've always been amazing at this stuff."
    "I was born amazing."

  • "You are just worried they'll hire a male instructor and he'll be hotter than you."
Jace's eyebrows went up. "Hotter than me?"
"It could happen," Clary said. "You know, theoretically."
"Theoretically the planet could suddenly crack in half, leaving me on one side and you on the other side, forever and tragically parted, but I'm not worried about that, either. Some things," Jace said, with his customary crooked smile, "are just too unlikely to dwell upon."

  • "We?" Simon looked at him in disbelief. "Are you ever going home?"
"What, bored with my company already?"
"Let me ask you something," Simon said. "Do you find me fascinating to be around?"
"What was that?" Jace said. "Sorry, I think I fell asleep for a moment. Do continue with whatever mesmerizing thing you were saying."

  1. Great quotes! And great review, too. I fully agree: when compared to the previous titles, this one fell a little flatter. I think it was due to the real action taking a long way to hit: we did a lot of floundering around in this one, don't you think?

I loved Simon's development, even though I wished it could have mixed better with the action. I also loved Alec and MAgnus, but I'm a Malec addict so that's no surprise. And yes... Jace acting like an idiotic idiot truly didn't cut it for me: he'd never behave like that!

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. Definitely more Simon in CoFA. Simon and his problems. Hehe. Ah, Alec and Magnus only appear a lot at the later part. The two of them are pretty interesting to read too.
