Vee Bell is certain of one irrefutable truth--her sister's friend Sophie didn't kill herself. She was murdered.

Vee knows this because she was there. Everyone believes Vee is narcoleptic, but she doesn't actually fall asleep during these episodes: When she passes out, she slides into somebody else's mind and experiences the world through that person's eyes. She's slid into her sister as she cheated on a math test, into a teacher sneaking a drink before class. She learned the worst about a supposed "friend" when she slid into her during a school dance. But nothing could have prepared Vee for what happens one October night when she slides into the mind of someone holding a bloody knife, standing over Sophie's slashed body.

Vee desperately wishes she could share her secret, but who would believe her? It sounds so crazy that she can't bring herself to tell her best friend, Rollins, let alone the police. Even if she could confide in Rollins, he has been acting distant lately, especially now that she's been spending more time with Zane.

Enmeshed in a terrifying web of secrets, lies, and danger and with no one to turn to, Vee must find a way to unmask the killer before he or she strikes again.

RATING: 3 out of 5 Stars

Vee possessed a unique ability to slide into another person and watched everything from that person's point of view while leaving her own body unconscious and vulnerable. No one believed what she said about her ability and she was treated as a narcoleptic. Things got seriously dangerous when she slid into someone standing over her sister's friend's slashed body with a bloody knife.

Jill Hathaway weaves a complex story that kept me on the edge of my seat, always guessing who the culprit was with each additional clue revealed. I'm actually eager for Vee to actually solve the crime and things always get more interesting with each clue just because it wasn't what I imagined. The plot twists blew me away but it seemed logical when the truth was revealed though I'm a little saddened by the story (in a good way because I'm actually feeling for Vee).

I think Vee's ability is interesting to read about. Initially she was reluctant to slide into other people because she has no control over who she slid into. The poor girl had to force herself to stay awake to avoid sliding into anyone and she has to be extremely careful about things she touched. And things weren't as pleasant as we all thought and it was a terrifying experience for Vee. I shudder to think of the nasty things she ever witnessed. I liked Rollins and was irked by his distance from Vee and she just accepted that fact. If only she confront Rollins... The part about Rollins' family seemed rushed though... just a small portion of it to explain his family situation and that's it. I guess I like the way things turned out in the end even though I thought that things could be even better. I guess I'll pick up book 2 to see what's in for Vee.
