Once Upon a Prince, the first novel in the Royal Wedding series by best-selling author Rachel Hauck, treats you to a modern-day fairy tale.

Susanna Truitt never dreamed of a great romance or being treated like a princess---just to marry the man she has loved for twelve years. But life isn't going according to plan. When her high-school-sweetheart-turned-Marine-officer breaks up instead of proposing, Susanna scrambles to rebuild her life.

The last thing Prince Nathaniel expects to find on his American holiday to St. Simons Island is the queen of his heart. A prince has duties, and his family's tense political situation has chosen his bride for him. When Prince Nathaniel comes to Susanna's aid under the fabled Lover's Oak, he is blindsided by love. Their lives are worlds apart. He's a royal prince. She's an ordinary girl. But everything changes when Susanna receives an invitation to Nathaniel's coronation. It's the ultimate choice: His kingdom or her heart? God's will or their own?

RATING: 4 out of 5 Stars

"The right ring, but not the right girl." What a nightmare for Susanna when her boyfriend said that when he came back. Naturally, she was in shock and denial. This was the outcome of their twelve years together? The news spread to her small town quickly and soon everyone knew about what happened.

Prince Nathaniel, or Nate, was on his holiday when he met Susanna by the Lover's Oak tree. Their short interaction there made a lasting impression in him and he could never seem to forget about her. She didn't know who Nath was and they had lots of enjoyable time together. When the truth was out... so did the complexities of their relationship. They were never meant to be together, with all those obstacles in their way, so why was she invited to the Prince's coronation?

This book does have a fairytale feel to it and I enjoy reading about Susanna because she's an interesting character. I do admit that I find the plot a little predictable but this doesn't make turn away from the book and I'm glad I was able to finish it in one sitting. This book makes a great easy read for romance lovers. Book 2 comes out in 2014. I'm looking out for that!  Do note that Once Upon a Pricne contains references to God, just in case you are not comfortable with that.
