{Review} The Pleasure Slave by Gena Showalter

The Pleasure Slave by Gena Showalter
Imperia #2

Publication Date: 1 February 2005
Genre: Adult Paranormal

Synopsis:

When Santa Fe antique dealer Julie Anderson was curiously drawn to purchase a battered jewelry box, she never expected it to contain her own personal love slave. Especially not tall, dark and sinfully handsome Tristan-a man hard to resist, and determined to fulfill her every desire.

Though Tristan was a rogue of the battlefield and the boudoir, making love with Julia was like nothing he'd ever known. Yet revealing his true heart would break the centuries-old spell and separate them forever. And Tristan would do anything to go on loving Julia. . .even remain a slave through all eternity. . .

What I Felt
I read this with no idea that this was the sequel to The Stone Prince until I saw familiar names. However, The Pleasure Slave can be read as a stand-alone as it does not reference heavily to The Stone Prince.

The idea of the man in the box is interesting. It is almost like genie in the lamp except that this 'genie' is hot and literally cursed to serve the holder of the box, until he finds his true love. It does remind me of fairytale in a sense, with the happily ever after.

I love Julia's reaction to Tristan's sudden appearance from the box and how it wasn't an instant love. It is enjoyable to read how both strengthened their bond and a little heart-breaking near to the end when they are apart.

However, the book is not without its fault. There is little explanation about the time progressed on Earth and Imperia. Nevertheless, The Pleasure Slave is still an enjoyable read.
