{Review} Half-Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Half-Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Covenant #1

Publication Date: 18 October 2011
Genre: YA Paranormal
Page Count: 281

Synopsis

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi pure bloods have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals--well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden. Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

What I Felt
I only found out about this series after reading Obsidian by the same author. As with Obsidian, I actually re-read Half-Blood! I find myself hook on Armentrout's writing style. The words flow so smoothly that they just spurred me to continue reading on and when I reached the end of the book, I craved for more. That was what led me to buying the whole series of 5 books.

We get to learn about Alexandria, or Alex for short, how she was trapped in the building with these monsters called daimons and what happened to her after that. It's fun to read about Alex because she's just full of energy and without self-restrains, evidenced by the fights she got into at the Covenant. How fun was that? Aiden is her champion throughout the book, always looking out for her and then volunteering to coach her on her skills so that she could catch up with the rest. Wow... However, they cannot be together... Relationships between a Half-blood and a Pure is strictly forbidden so how will they ever continue?

I must say that Armentrout has a way with her cast of characters, all of which supported the main characters in the book. A must read for fans of Greek Mythology and well, fans of Armentrout! On to the next book!

  2. WOAHH you bought all 5 books already?? Haha I enjoyed Half-Blood, but I thought the books started to look less and less awesome. :X I won't go into details so that I won't spoil your reading experience later on, but I'm looking forward to what you think of Pure and Deity and the others! But I wouldn't really recommend this book to Greek myth fans...cause it doesn't really link that much to the myths right?? I didn't really find a link, but I enjoyed reading bout the heroine.

But ahhh you should read her adult series, first book's called Unchained!! It's reeeeally good! :)) Glad you liked this one so much! It's awesome when you find another favorite author.

PS. Love the Singapore Bloggers widget at the sidebar!! I think I'll install one too when I blog the next time. :D

    1. Yeah! I didn't want to be left hanging when I finished each book. Figured it would be better to get all 5 ready at hand. Agree that the books didn't link too much with Greek Mythology, just some mention here and there for the first 2 books.

I think I have Unchained in my ereader! It's that good eh? Then I shall move the book up my long reading list ! Omg... so excited now!

Oh! And add the Singapore Bloggers icon in your blog! :D
