Synopsis
Let the games begin...

No Man Can Outsmart Him...

Lord Adrian Smythe may appear a perfectly boring gentleman, but he leads a thrilling life as one of England's most preeminent spies, an identity so clandestine even his wife is unaware of it. But he isn't the only one with secrets...

She's Been Outsmarting Him For Years...

Now that the Napoleonic wars have come to an end, daring secret agent Lady Sophia Smythe can hardly bear the thought of returning home to her tedious husband. Until she discovers in the dark of night that he's not who she thinks he is after all.

RATING

Got to know about this book from one of the book blog (I can't remember which one) and thought the situation of Lord and Lady Smythe to be amusing. Somehow, the premise reminds me of Mr and Mrs Smith (I always wanted to watch this movie but I always missed it on TV).

The story started with their last assignment, which happened to be the same one. While Sophia failed hers due to a locked cupboard, her prey was captured by another cloaked person! That person turned out to be her husband, Adrian, but she didn't know it until later. That's when the truth was revealed. Oh, I was so waiting for the revelation part! I was so eager to read about when they find out about each other's identity and of course they were shocked that their spouse was not who they thought to be.  I enjoyed reading about their rush to uncover the identity of the murderer because the person who finds the murderer gets the final agent position. As expected, both of them did worked well together. The story is interesting but I thought the murderer part could be done a little better. To me, it was just a bang and go situation upon uncovering the murderer and the plot was predictable but still enjoyable. I'm interested about this character Blue and am happy to learn that there is a novella on this character.

  1. It is a similar theme to the modern Mr. Mrs. Smith :) I've read this and also gave it 3 stars, it was good, but not great.

  2. Despite being predictable this does sound like a fun read and very much like a historical version of Mr.& Mrs. Smoth :) Great review Michelle
