Julie Garwood is one of my favourite author of all time! I started reading her historical romance when I was about twelve years old, all thanks to my aunt who owned the whole collection. So when I know Hotshot is coming out, I was thrilled. However, I couldn't get the book because the price is a little too expensive for me. I ended up paying a few dollars to reserve the book from the library and I rushed to the library to get it the moment I received the message saying that the book is ready for collection. I devoured the book within the day.
Finn saved Peyton from drowning in her backyard pool when she was young. If it weren't for him, she would have drowned for sure because everyone is busy enjoying the party inside the house. Finn, who was grounded, stayed in his room and was staring at his neighbour's pool wistfully when he spotted the little girl slipping into the pool. I love how sweet and adorable Peyton was when she's young and I love how rowdy the MacBain boys were and their relationship with their parents (although it wasn't much in the book).
I like the way Peyton handles her boss's sexual harassment. Things went a little extreme when her boss tried to cover up the issue when she fled the company. Finn realized the danger Peyton was in and stepped in to help her. I find Finn to be a little too perfect--Olympic gold medalist in swimming, the FBI role model who saves the day again and again. His finds Peyton attractive the moment they met again at the Church for his brother's wedding but didn't realize he love her until much later. On a side note, I detest Peyton's annoying cousin who brought nothing but trouble. All she did was make lots of noise, whine and create lots of trouble. I wouldn't give her a second chance if it is up to me.
Overall, the plot for Hotshot is slightly cliche. Unfortunately, there is not much of a wow factor in this book but it still enjoyable to read. I'll still continue to read future books in the series and keep on hoping that Garwood will write another historical romance.
