Review: Shatter Me #1 by Tahereh Mafi

Genre: YA Paranormal
Publication Date: November 15, 2011
Format: Hardcover
Source: Borrowed from Library
Rating: 5/5 Stars (AMAZING)

Goodreads Summary:
The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war-- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

In this electrifying debut, Tahereh Mafi presents a world as riveting as The Hunger Games and a superhero story as thrilling as The X-Men. Full of pulse-pounding romance, intoxicating villainy, and high-stakes choices, Shatter Me is a fresh and original dystopian novel—with a paranormal twist—that will leave readers anxiously awaiting its sequel.

My Opinion
Shatter Me truly deserves a full 5 stars! You just have to read it to find out why! It's just that amazing!

The Reestablishment locked Juliette up for 264 days just because her touch was fatal and she couldn't help it but harming whoever she touched, accidentally or not. She was always alone in the cell for those 264 until one day, she finally got a cellmate and a male one at that--a guy called Adam. She ignored him at first but gradually began to help him adjust to the "cell life". She couldn't shake the feeling that she knew him from somewhere...

Then, she was taken out of the cell to meet Warner and she thought that the reason she was finally having a cell mate was because she was going to die and that Adam was a replacement in the cell! She was totally wrong! Turned out that Adam was a soldier and now that she could see him clearly, she knew who he was. And then Warner gave her a proposition and wanted to enlist her help in his cause. She refused instantly, not wanting to torture people.

Just when she thought all was lost, Adam did the unthinkable and Juliette found something very surprising... about him.

Would Juliette be able to hold of Warner's attempts to bring her to his side and help him with his cause? Was she going to be the monster that everyone thought her to be? You MUST read Shatter Me to find out!!

This is a wonderfully written book and the use of strike-through throughout the book was very refreshing. This was the first time I am seeing it in a book! It marked Juliette's very inner thoughts. It is very easy to understand what Juliette was thinking and what she was going through. Action packed from the middle portion onwards till the end. I was unable to put down the book until I finished it! Love the romance between Juliette and Adam. Totally wow. I'm definitely looking forward to the second book in the series! Can't wait to read what happens to both of them next. Fight back, Juliette!!

5/5 Stars for Shatter Me.
