Goodreads Summary:
High school senior, Sofia Black, has had a very hard life. Since her father's death 7 years ago, she has had to look after her drug addicted, alcohlic mother. School isn't any better for her either. The other kids constantly tease, and ridicule her. All she wants is to get out of her small hometown in Alabama.

When new student, Jason, shows up, Sofia's world is turned upside down. She doesn't understand why he wants to befriend her so badly... And, just when she thinks she can trust him, trouble appears.

Jason's twin brother, Robbie, moves into town, and things go haywire. Sofia is now running for her life - and Jason is forced to share hidden secrets with her. She learns the truth about her father's death, and finds out that she may not be as "human" as she once thought. She struggles to accept her fate, while fighting for her life.

My Opinion
I'm swept away by Heather's Redheads Are Soulless. The story started off with introducing us to the moment Sofia's father died when she was young. Then it went on to show us her situation in school where she was just another nobody though known for her always drunk mother. It all changed when there was a new transfer student in her school -- Jason Morgan. He took an immediate interest to Sofia and was determined to get to know her, despite her attempts to ward him off. He's sweet. Real sweet. And he treated Sofia really well. There was another transfer student some time later--Robbie Morgan. Guess who he was? And Sofia thought there was something off about him... When her drunken mom brought back some unknown guy, Sofia escaped to stay with Jason and was thrown into a disastrous life together with Robbie all under one roof. Just what was going on with the three of them?

And here I thought it was another romance story, although a little more interesting. Nope! I was totally wrong. When Jason came into the scene, I was eagerly reading for some sparks between him and Sofia. And yes, I was rewarded handsomely. Jason's really sweet towards Sofia, buying her things and bringing her around, sticking to her like glue even though she didn't really want him near her (she's afraid that she would cause him to become the scorn of the school by associating with her). But when Robbie came along, there's some serious contests between the brothers. Sofia was told Robbie wasn't safe and I was really shocked by the reason. For some reasons, she sought Robbie for some unanswered questions about her past. So... Sofia has some powers (making this a paranormal read) and there were some curse involved, resulting in the death of her father by the hands of someone. However, I do think that the relationship among characters develops a little too quickly for me to savor it fully. Nevertheless, it is still enjoyable to read.

And that's not all. My jaws literally dropped when it comes to the first major action scene. My expression was :O WOW! It was kind of like an explosion of scenes to me. If only there's more of it.  I've enjoyed reading that. *wistful sigh* The only thing I don't quite like about this story was Sofia's mother. She's a chronic drunk and didn't seem to be very concern about her own daughter, often indulging in alcohol/beer. Yeah, pretty immature for her own age. But then, if she's mature, Sofia wouldn't run away and we won't get to see shirtless Robbie and Jason. *drools*

So, if you are Sofia, who will you choose? The good guy or the bad guy? Read it for yourself and be surprised by Heather's story!

P.S. Heather, will we get more scenes of shirtless Jason and Robbie? :D

This book is recommended to those who enjoyed paranormal read with interesting twists in plot. Yeah, watch out for that! :D

  2. I just read this book this weekend. My review is coming up at the end of the week. I really liked it too. I liked that it wasn't super predictable. I caught myself going back and forth between the guys and who I could trust for most of the book. (but i was totally team robbie- from about the 2/3rds mark on) What about you?
