Goodreads Summary:
What happens when you discover you aren't who you thought you were? And that the person you love is the person who will betray you? If your fate is already determined, can you fight it?
When Evie Tremain discovers that she’s the last in a long line of Demon slayers and that she’s being hunted by an elite band of assassins –Shapeshifters, Vampires and Mixen demons amongst them – she knows she can’t run. They’ll find her wherever she goes. Instead she must learn to stand and fight.
But when the half-human, half-Shadow Warrior Lucas Gray is sent to spy on Evie and then ordered to kill her before she can fulfil a dangerous prophecy, their fates become inextricably linked. The war that has raged for one thousand years between humans and demons is about to reach a devastating and inevitable conclusion. Either one or both of them will die before this war ends.
If your life becomes bound to another’s, what will it take to sever it?
My Opinion:
Three simple words: I love it! After reading Sarah's Hunting Lila, I knew I have to read Fated too since it's by the same author. Fated did not disappoint me and I find myself hooked from the first page onwards!
It's the Hunters vs Unhuman. Evie found out the truth about herself after she was attacked by something definitely not human in the alley of her workplace and was saved by a Hunter (Victor), who then took her under his wing to train her so that she would be able to fight against the Unhuman on her own. What she didn't know that an Unhuman had slipped past their defenses and was living in the same house as Evie. What would she do when she finds out? Or rather, will the Unhuman kill her while she was defenseless at home?
I really love the author's writing style as it is easy to follow. The book is in third person's POV and we get to read from both Evie's and Lucas's side of the story. The author really has her way in creating characters! Lucas! He's so perfect! He was even willing to sacrifice himself, literally, while his duty to his brotherhood required him to make the kill. As for Evie, I feel that she's a troubled but tough girl with an attitude. First, her ex-boyfriend killed her best friend, whom he was seeing behind her back, in a car accident. Then she was attacked and told that she was the last pure-blood Hunter and had to fulfill a prophecy. To make the matter worse, she just had to fall in love with the wrong guy. Evie was definitely powerful and had great potential within her. However, there wasn't much on the Unhumans except for when they attacked Evie so I didn't get to really connect with them. It'd be good if there's more on the Brotherhood.
Overall, Fated is a fast-paced and exciting paranormal read with lots of action. If you love paranormal read and have enjoyed Hunting Lila, you'd definitely enjoy this.

Quotes:
- 'Hit first, ask questions later,' she murmured to herself. Her dad had always said it was better to be safe than sorry.
- 'Are you trying to tell me that was Edward Cullen outside? Because you know, I thought he was supposed to be hotter than that. And a whole lot more romantic.'
- 'Er, I thought you were here to maybe teach me how to kick some demon blood or something. Because forgive me if I got this wrong but I don't think Chanel garments are going to do it - unless I am missing something. Are demons allergic to fashion? Am I supposed to blind them with sequins? Give them a cardiac arrest by showing them the price tags?'
You know Michelle... you always get me with the quotes, every single time!
ReplyDeleteI mean, yeah, Fated sounded cool but also kind of same story. Then, we get that cardiac arrest by showing them the price tags and I choke on my own laughter :) Definitely going to check it out now!
Thanks for sharing,
I thought that was cute too. :D
