Review: The Ivy by Lauren Kunze with Rina Onur

Genre: Contemporary Romance (I don't consider it YA due to adult situations, language and drug use!)
Publication Date: August 31, 2010
Format: Hardcover
Source: Loaned from Library
Rating: 4/5 Stars

Goodreads Summary:
Congratulations! You have been admitted to the most prestigious university in the world. Now what are you going to do?

Callie Andrews may not have money or connections or the right clothes, and she may have way too many complications in her love life, what with

Gregory
the guy she loves to hate ...

Evan
the guy she'd love to forget ...

Clint
the guy she'd love to love ...

and Matt
the guy she really should love ...

all vying for her attention.

But she has three fantastic roommates (best friends or her worst nightmare?) and a wholesome California-girl reputation (oops) and brains and beauty and big, big dreams.

Will it be enough to help her survive freshman year at Harvard?

My Opinion
Interesting story about life at Harvard of a girl from humble family background. However, note should be taken that it does contain some hint of adult situation and language. So... You are cautioned!

Callie definitely got into Harvard due to her intelligence, not her family background. This makes being accepted in social circles a little difficult. But she's lucky to have her roommates to accompany her through her sudden breakup with her boyfriend Evan and the attention of a few guys who proved useful in getting her around, especially Clint, who seemed hanging all over her. There's the nerdy Matt too and the arrogant Gregory.

Callie is a not-so-perfect character. Realistic enough for me to relate to her and follow her through her ups and downs of her difficult time in Harvard, her breakup with Evan and so many guys vying for her attention. Aren't she a blessed one? She gets to choose!

One thing special about this book was the use of yearbook entries to let us know more about Callie before she got into Harvard and also the media column to give a hint about what went on in Harvard. What I like best about this book was the part where Callie and friends get high and silly. Definitely hilarious and worth a read.

And as usual for books in series, The Ivy ends in cliffhanger, leaving me wondering who she eventually ends up with. Gregory? Clint? Matt? Or even back to Evan?

Oh, the scandal!

4/5 Stars for The Ivy.

  3. This book sounds SO sweet!! With all of those amazing-soundihng guys, I don't know how Callie could possibly choose between them -- she is definitely blessed! x) I love how each of them have their own personalities. And I love how it includes yearbook entries, because yearbooks are always fun to read! :)
